Daily Visit with God

Prayer Journal

I produced this journal/devotional book as a tool to aide in a personal walk with God. Recently, in my own study of God's Word, I determined that a walk implies two things: presence and progress. The purpose of this journal is to both contribute to and record both the presence of God in our devotional life, and our progress through it. The journal contains the following four sections for each day. 1. A place to journal daily events and devotional lessons. 2. A place to journal a prayer time or prayer list. 3. A place to journal the blessings for which we are grateful. 4. A place to journal our own purposeful acts of kindness and ministry to others.

A Personal Bible Study

Over the course of years I have learned that a lot of what passes for Bible study isn’t. Many Christians have been lulled in to a ritual of “through the Bible in a year.” I don’t mean to say that such a program is inherently wicked. What I do contend is that it is not Bible study and it is prone to degenerate into mindless routine. The practitioner can check off that they read their daily quota. They can feel good about themselves for doing it, and they may even feel like they are better than some because they have read so much of the Bible. Very often the same people could not tell you what it is they read.

I prefer to encourage people instead to read more slowly and purposefully, stopping along the way to perhaps, look up the meaning of a word, follow a link to a supporting passage or praying for a moment in relationship to the lesson of the passage. The practitioner of this may not read as much Bible every day, but what they read will most certainly remain with them in a more meaningful way.
